SPORTS

Healthy minds live in healthy body. At Prince O’Bheick International School sports and physical exercise is regarded as an extension of the classroom. These activities are aimed to improve the fitness of our students as they facilitate strength building, flexibility, balance and coordination. Thus, enabling them to focus in the classroom, handle academic stress and have good mental health. Further, sports and physical activity reinforce the values of teamwork, sportsmanship and confidence as they actively engage with their peers outside the classroom.

Our sport infrastructure includes a soccer field, which is spacious, modish and filled with natural light. The floor contains natural grasses to curb the risk of injury and to enhance ball movements. Also, we have an indoor tennis room where students can play the game of table tennis. In addition, we have an open court where other games like badminton, volleyball can be played.

We encourage students to partake in at least one of our school sport clubs based on their personal interest. Each club has a physical education instructor who possess extensive knowledge of the sport and are present in the field to direct and inform students on how to play the sport and its benefit. Also, the physical education instructors prepare our students for national competitions.

Also, the school presently has a football academy with a certified coach that trains students in the game of football. The academy is designed for those who intend to pursue a career in sports. These students go out and compete with other schools.





LABS (Science Lab)

To facilitate the application of theory to practice, Prince O’Bheick International School possesses a state-of-the-art laboratory for its science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) courses. Our labs are designed to support different disciplines like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Home Economics and Agricultural Science. The labs contain light weight furnishings that are not fixed which can be altered prior to or during class activity to accommodate different teaching and demonstration styles.

The safety of our students is of great priority, to this end we possess safety equipment like a centralized switch to turn off all gas taps. Also, our labs contain emergency safety showers and eyewash stations, fire extinguishers and first aid kits.

Our goal is to lay a solid foundation for our students in STEM and to attract as many students as possible into this field. We have knowledgeable teachers with a minimum of five years of teaching experience to instruct and support our students.





COMPUTER LAB

Prince O’Bheick International School possesses an Information and Computing Technology laboratory (ICT) infrastructure. Our facility is used for education and research purposes. The lab contains a white board and Hi- tech computers with the most recent version of windows software installed, each student is entitled to a computer. Also, learning tools like Microsoft excel for data analysis and simulation software are installed in the computer systems to aid the teaching. There is a high-speed internet available for use on regular school days and students are welcome to use the computer lab to research on their assignment during breaks.





LIBRARY

The school’s library is dedicated to meet the learning, reading and information needs of our students and staff. Our library is spacious with table and chair furnishing. The study spaces are demarcated to facilitate independent study and minimize the likelihood of conversation while using the library. There are study rooms where students can collaborate to work on group assignments or study together. There are computers present to aid learning and research.

In addition, there is a library staff to supervise and assist students on their research. The library houses over 1000 books and periodicals which are age appropriate for our students.





BOARDING FACILITIES

Prince O’Bheick International School operates as a boarding and day school. We provide a safe, conducive and hospitable climate for students who intend to board. Our boarding environment is often regarded as a home away from home by our students. We have God-fearing housemaster and house mistresses who live with our students and are available to address their emotional and social needs. In addition, our boarding infrastructure are comparable to those in a residential home. Our hostels are separate for boys and girls. Each hostel comprises of a maximum of ten students. There is a common room with sofa where students can relax during recreation.

We have a sick bay with a qualified nurse that care for the health needs of our students who fall ill. The sick bay provides temporary care, and any further treatment and assessment is relayed to the child’s parent.

We have a cafeteria where students can eat. Our students are entitled to a three- square meal. The meals are prepared on -site by great chefs in our kitchen. The meal plan is structured by a dietician and is rich in nutritional value. Also, the meal plan provide accommodation for students who have certain food allergies. Faculty members dine with the students and supervise their table manners.

Further, as part of our mission to instill the gift of salvation into the minds of our students and encourage them to walk in the way of light, we have a chapel where students attend Church services on Sundays and weekdays. Here, they spend some hours appreciating God for the gift of life and discussing God’s word.





TRANSPORT FACILITIES

We have two school buses that transport members of our community – students and staff for school functions. The buses are employed to pick-up our day students in the morning and dropping them off in the afternoon within the city of Port-Harcourt.





EXTRA-CURRICULAR LIFE

As part of our mandate to educate our students in all aspects of life, Prince O’Bheick International School foster extra-curricular activities for students. These activities are tailored towards student’s interest and future goals. Each student is encouraged to be affiliated with one of the social clubs discussed below.

Jet/Science club - this club is aimed at informing and educating students interested in the field of science or who love science as a hobby. Students engage in different scientific activities such as learning how to write in programming languages - java, python, purifying DNA from organic matter, learning about forensic investigation techniques.

Press Club - aims to build students ability in mass media communication. Activities range from writing articles that are published in the school news, honing excellent communication skills, writing poetry.

Music Club – students learn how to play musical instruments like the violin, piano in the school’s music studio

Art Club/Design – This club is open to students who have an appeal for the creative arts. Their creative work like painting, drawings, mosaic design are collated and placed in the art gallery for display.

Debate Club – Students in this club hone debating skills by arguing contemporary issues like climate change, immigration, race and racism.

Drama Club – aims to develop the dramatic skills of students interested in pursuing drama as a career or hobby, students write plays and act them on club days.
